Fulong Beach Taiwan - Hohaiyan Rock Festival

Surf spot report: Fulong Beach, Taiwan (#47)

Surf spot report: Fulong Beach, Taiwan (#47).

Taiwan is a beautiful country, with the general population being some of the most friendly and lovable people in the world. Like any country, you will find the occasional douchebag, but the main point is – they are generally nice. So is surfing at Fulong Beach – if you are a beginner. It is very beginner friendly. We are a bit surprised to see this in a top 50 list for top SURF beaches, but hey, it is a darn nice beach.

Fulong Beach is the outlet of the Shuang River, you will find it located at Fulong Village, Gongliao Township, New Taipei City at Northeastern Taiwan.

“Situated in northeast Taiwan, Fulong Beach has a great camping spot nearby and produces thrilling right- and left-peeling waves from the sandbar. Waves range from one to two meters and are empty. Intrigued locals will often stare in awe while you surf. Entrance to the beach is 90NTD (US$3) for adults, but includes use of all the facilities.” (CNN TRAVEL)

Getting there: The best way to get around Taiwan is by scooter; fly into Taipei and rent a bike at a local store or get the Taiwan Railway to Fulong Station and an inexpensive taxi from there straight to the beach.”

Fun stuff when there is no surf:

Annually, normally in mid-july, there is a rock festival called Hohaiyan Rock Festival (貢寮國際海洋音樂祭) being arranged.

What people say:

“Fulong has a long sandy beach and clear waters suitable for sailing, windsurfing, surfing and other sports. In recent years the town of Fulong has seen some aesthetic improvements (some buildings have actually had a fresh coat of paint applied), and the beach area is getting new wooden boardwalks, pavilions, treed parks and open-air restaurants. All in all, the town is starting to shape up into a community that’s on par with its natural resources.”
